A Theme of Immediacy - Transform Learning Today

The conference theme “Transform Learning Today” represents the need for change at the personal, departmental, and industry level. Conference organizers are designing the conference content with this principle in mind, so that attendees can leave the three-and-a-half-day event with a clearer strategy for attaining their complex objectives and goals.

At the core of SPBT’s educational program are dozens of workshops led by the industry’s best and brightest. Each workshop is carefully selected by a team of members to ensure that the content, design, and delivery are relevant.

Special forums for vice presidents, directors, and other senior executives will cover strategic and operational business issues specifically at their level.

Keynote Speakers

Olympic gold-medalist Jim Craig will present the opening keynote session on Tuesday. Craig was the goalie and “backbone” of the 1980 U.S. “Miracle on Ice” hockey team that accomplished one of the most memorable sports victories of all time—defeating the seemingly invincible Soviet Union in the Olympic semifinal. Craig and his teammates clinched the gold two days later with a win over Finland. His presentation on June 8 will coincide with the 30th anniversary of the “Miracle on Ice” at Lake Placid.

Craig is a noted motivational speaker and teamwork coach who has provided strategic and winning direction for more than 300 organizations. His talk at SPBT will include how the principles of effective leadership and communication can create teams that win.

Jim Loehr, EdD, Chairman, CEO, and Co-Founder of the Human Performance Institute, will speak to SPBT on June 9 about how to manage energy—not time—for peak performance. Loehr is the author of The Power of Story: Rewrite Your Destiny in Business and in Life and co-author of the national bestseller The Power of Full Engagement—Managing Energy, Not Time, Is the Key to High Performance and Personal Renewal.

Dr. Loehr has worked with hundreds of world-class performers from the arenas of sports, business, and medicine. Corporate clients include GlaxoSmithKline, Procter & Gamble, and many others.

Karie Willyerd will give the concluding keynote address on Thursday, June 10, speaking to the membership about informal learning and how to leverage technology to transform learning. She has an exceptional background in instructional design, worldwide executive development, organization development, global staffing, training and development, and performance management.

Currently, Willyerd is a founding partner of Future Workplace, and CEO of Jambok, a social learning software platform.  Prior to this role, she led the award-winning Sun Learning Services (SLS) organization where she was responsible for employee, customer and partner learning.

Willyerd is a regular Conversation Starters blogger for the Harvard Business Review. She is also co-author of The 2020 Workplace: How Innovative Companies Attract, Develop and Keep Tomorrow's Employees Today, to be published this May.
